Harrachov vein type of deposit has been known since the mid-18th century. The main vein filling consists of fluorite, barite, galenite and quartz. In addition, there is a further 38 minerals reported here.
Exploratory work has been started in 1947 and in 1957 the mining has begun. Raw materials obtained after processing of the ores were mainly used in chemical and metallurgical industries. Deposit was opened by a vertical shaft horizontally divided by seven floors approximately 50 m from each other, which means that the deepest floor is 350 m below the main gallery floor. During mining almost 21.5 km of horizontal tunnels and 5391 vertical shafts have been dug. The mining was closed as unprofitable on September 30, 1992.
